The main focus in the Early Years (or Kindergarten)  is ensuring that children are happy, engaged and comfortable in their environment so that they can develop a positive feeling towards school and learning.

Teaching and learning is child-centered and play based. Activities stem from a real-life topic that children can easily relate to. Teachers organise a range of games and activities that can be both child initiated and teacher-led.

Activities are organised with a view to fulfilling the development goals set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework of the National Curriculum. The curriculum aims to cover 6 key areas of learning: social & emotional development, language, problem solving, understanding of the world, creative development and physical development.

Chinese is introduced in the curriculum in the Early Years and follows a similar, play-based approach.

Each child's progress is tracked individually enabling the class teacher to understand and plan for each child's individual needs. Small class sizes allow for more personal attention and care for each child.

The school provides regular, on-going feedback to parents, which can be daily wherever appropriate, to ensure that parents are fully informed of how their children are adjusting to life in school.

The Early Years are a transition from home care to school. Special attention is therefore given to eating, resting and the general well being of the children in our care as they prepare to be more independent in primary school.
