Our focus in the Primary school (or elementary school) education (ages 5 to 11) is for pupils to acquire a solid grounding in reading, writing and mathematics, to begin to develop critical thinking skills and to build their confidence both as individuals and members of a team.

The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. English, Maths and Science are core subjects and so are taught every day.

The curriculum also includes Science, Humanities, Chinese, Art, Music and Physical Education. Work is largely organized around topics that are generally of interest to pupils and also help create a practical context and application for the skills they are learning.

Pupils and staff have a wide range of information technology at their disposal. Interactive whiteboards, laptop computers, tablets, e-readers and other media are all used with clear purpose by class-teachers to enhance learning and understanding.

Teachers assess pupils regularly and incorporate their progress into the planning of future work. More able pupils are given the opportunity to advance quicker and deepen their learning while extra support is provided to those who need it.

In the primary school each class is taught by a teacher and a teaching assistant. In the lower primary school the class teacher typically leads in most subjects with specialists taking P.E., music, and language lessons. In upper primary pupils are increasingly taught by specialists, including English, Maths and Science from Year 5 upwards.

The primary curriculum is enhanced with additional Sports, Music and Drama as well as a range of educational trips that help to enrich pupils' experience at the school.
