Music
Music

Music lessons at King’s School Manila are designed to be hands-on sessions where children get to discover the exciting world of music. Whether they are singing, playing instruments, listening to pieces or composing their own songs they are immersed in sessions that are full of practical activity. Students learn about different styles, cultures, traditions and forms of music and are strongly encouraged to learn music notation and all the traditional values of music education in a fun filled, inclusive environment.

All students receive two one hour music lessons as a class each week. Typically each lesson will feature singing songs in unison, two or more part vocal songs or songs that combine singing and instrumental playing. They study a wide range of musical styles that incorporate a variety of different cultures. Students who play an instrument are encouraged to use these as part of the classroom learning. Regular performances are scheduled throughout the school year and preparation for these performances take place during the classroom music lessons ensuring all students have the opportunity to be involved. We also work closely with local musicians and organisations so that children get to witness professional performances first-hand.

As King’s School Manila expands every child will have the opportunity to learn an instrument from one of the main orchestral sections, this may be Strings, Brass, Woodwind or Percussion. Students have the additional chance to enrol in one-to-one classes for instrumental instruction with highly qualified instrumental teachers.

Our music programme focuses on quality whilst involving the majority. We are proud of the work we put into this programme and strongly believe that Music learning provides pupils' with a unique opportunity to develop their critical thinking skills, their ability to listen as well as a greater appreciation for a wider variety of music.

The Rewards of Performing

At King’s students in every key stage will have the opportunity to take to the stage and combine their dramatic, dance and musical talents in school musicals. All students are encouraged to showcase their talents, whether it be on the stage itself, or backstage in organising these shows.  A busy schedule of concerts and performances ensures that all musicians have many opportunities to display their abilities and gain confidence.
